In the second day of hearings for AG nominee Mukasey, someone finally got around to asking him whether simulated drowning was torture. He was willing to say that if it was torture, then it shouldn't be authorized, but repeatedly refused to venture an opinion as to whether it was or it wasn't.

One blogger's response: "Of course it's torture, you stupid sack of shit." But that's, well... not only indelicate, but ungenerous as well. Perhaps Mukasey really does have trouble making up his mind. In which case, I propose a simple remedy: he could just try it out, and judge for himself.
